Paediatric Resuscitation Trolleys case study
The Requirement:
Addenbrooke’s Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, required new paediatric IV and care trolleys for use within the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
The PICU is a high-pressure clinical environment and can be overwhelming for children and their families. Existing trolley provision did not fully support consistent organisation or ease of access to equipment and consumables.
The PICU team sought a solution that would support safe, efficient care while also improving the experience of patients and families by providing:
- Clear, organised storage for IV and care equipment
- Consistent layouts to support efficient, repeatable care
- Practical features to support day-to-day clinical tasks
- Child-friendly design to create a more welcoming environment
- Robust, easy–to–clean construction suitable for intensive care use.
Our Solution:
Agile worked closely with the PICU team to design and supply bespoke Paediatric IV and Care Trolleys tailored to the department’s requirements.
The trolleys feature spacious, well–organised drawers with internal dividers, helping staff keep contents neat, tidy, and easy to access. Standardised layouts support consistency across the unit, improving efficiency at the point of care.
Practical design features include a pop-out work surface, an integrated drip stand, and a rear–mounted section for securely displaying quick–reference information such as drug monographs and resus charts on the IV trolley, both valued by staff in daily use.
Child–friendly sticker theme on the trolleys helps brighten the clinical setting, while a dedicated drawer on the care trolley allows families to store personal belongings safely at the bedside.
The Result:
The new IV and care trolleys have improved organisation, usability, and the overall PICU environment at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
Staff benefit from intuitive layouts, practical features, and reliable build quality that support efficient, safe care delivery. Families have welcomed the brighter, more child–friendly designs and the added consideration for personal storage, helping make a challenging environment feel more welcoming – this is a great example of how Agile consistently delivers on our mission to support healthcare professionals in providing superior and dignified patient care.
