Infinity Racking System Case Study

The Requirement:

Royal Shrewsbury Hospital’s Emergency Department needed to improve the way fluids and medications were stored within key clinical areas, including resuscitation. Existing storage consisted of ageing wooden shelving that was no longer fit for purpose.

Boxes were often stored on the floor or placed too high, creating access issues and increasing the risk of error. In some cases, fluids were removed from their original packaging and decanted into baskets with temporary labels, which could fall off or be incorrectly filled. This made stock control difficult and posed potential patient safety risks.

In addition, the department needed a robust solution that would support safe storage compliance, allow for clear segregation of high-risk fluids, and enable staff to access stock quickly in high-pressure environments.

Our Solution:

We worked closely with the team to design and install the Infinity Racking System, providing a high-capacity, modular storage solution tailored to the Emergency Department’s needs.

The Infinity system’s ISO modular compatibilitypull-out shelves, and high load capacity allowed all fluids to remain in their original boxes, neatly stored and fully supported. The sliding shelves mean staff can easily pull-out boxes, rotate stock, and access items safely without removing products from their packaging.

The aluminium frame ensures durability with no risk of rust, making it ideal for demanding clinical environments, while offering more storage in less space.

To further enhance patient safety, selected units were fitted with glass-fronted doors, allowing the team to clearly isolate fluids containing potassium. This provides instant visual identification, removes reliance on labels, and ensures staff know exactly what is stored inside immediately.

The system was installed within the resuscitation area, where speed of access is critical, enabling staff to locate and retrieve fluids immediately when they are needed most.

The Result:

The introduction of the Infinity Racking System has transformed fluid storage within Royal Shrewsbury Emergency Department. Stock is now clearly organised, fully visible, and easily accessible, supporting safer practice and improved workflow.

Keeping fluids in their original boxes has significantly reduced the risk of error, improved stock rotation, and eliminated issues caused by mislabelling or mixed storage. The result is greater accuracy, enhanced productivity, and better overall stock management.

Matron Natalie Rose explained the impact:

By delivering a flexible, durable, and safety-focused solution, the Infinity Racking System has helped Royal Shrewsbury Emergency Department achieve full compliance, improved efficiency, and greater confidence in the safe storage of critical fluids.
